About Dansverkstæðið
Dansverkstæðið has been the home and heart of Icelandic dance since its founding in 2010. It plays a key role in the infrastructure of the art form and is the home of the independent dance scene in Iceland. Dansverkstæðið is the backbone of the development of an entire art form, a center and flagship of Icelandic dance art where a professional community is created, knowledge is transferred between generations and new projects are born.
Dansverkstæðið hosts the activities of key players in dance and other performing arts, including the Reykjavík Dance Festival, the Icelandic Dancers' Association and the ASSITEJ Children's Culture Festival, in addition to associations such as the Icelandic Performing Arts Association and the Icelandic Actors and Performing Arts Association using the facilities for meetings and projects.
Every year, Dansverkstæðið hires dozens of dance artists to lead training sessions, courses and provide professional advice, which strengthens the professional environment of the industry and creates employment and development opportunities. In addition to professionals, the public is increasingly attending performances and events organized by Dansverkstæðið. Good accessibility also ensures the participation of people with disabilities and underlines the role of Dansverkstæðið as an accessible and important place in Icelandic cultural life.
